How to Design a Custom Ring: A Step-by-Step Guide

Decide what the ring is for
An engagement ring, signet, anniversary ring and personal statement piece ask different questions. Consider how often it will be worn, what other jewelry it will sit beside and whether the design should feel discreet, ceremonial or sculptural.

Choose the stone and metal relationship
A gemstone does not sit separately from its metal. Yellow gold can warm a diamond or emerald; white metal can sharpen a cool blue sapphire. The setting should provide enough protection while keeping the color and cut readable.
