How to Store Jewelry to Prevent Tangles, Scratches and Tarnish
Set up a jewelry storage routine that protects gold, silver, gemstones and pearls between wears.
Storage has a quiet but powerful effect on jewelry. Keeping pieces separated, dry and easy to see reduces tangles, surface abrasion and the chance that a favorite item remains unworn at the bottom of a drawer.

Separate harder and softer materials
Diamonds and other hard stones can scratch metals, pearls and softer gems. Individual compartments, soft pouches or small wrapped sections help prevent contact during storage and transport.

Give chains their own space
Fine chains tangle when they share a compartment. Hang them individually, thread them through soft slots or fasten the clasp and lay them flat in a long, narrow space. This reduces knots and protects delicate links.

Keep moisture and chemicals away
A dry, lined jewelry box is generally more protective than a bathroom shelf. For silver, a closed pouch or compartment can help slow tarnish. Avoid storing jewelry beside cleaning products, perfume or direct heat.
